Autograph letter signed, dated : Düsseldorf, 6 February 1854, to Richard Pohl in Dresden, 1854, 6 February.

Thanking him for sending his literary works, especially the Akustische Briefe, less so for a brochure, saying he never knew that Pohl was "Hoplit" [his pen name], saying he is not especially sympathetic to the Liszt-Wagner enthusiasts--those whom they call musicians of the future Schumann thinks of as musicians of the present, and those they take as musicians of the past (Bach, Handel, Beethoven) seem to Schumann the best musicians of the future--, asking if Pohl has really considered some of the things he wrote about Schumann's works in the brochure, mentioning the Requiem für Mignon, Nachtlied, Die Pilgerfarht der Rose [i.e. Der Rose Pilgerfahrt], Der Königssohn, Des Sängers Fluch, Vom Pagen und der Königstöchter, Das Glück von Edenhall, emphasizing that he has always considered it his holy duty to subject every word he publishes to the most stringent scrutiny, etc.
